Welcome!
head_start_logo-1-300x80The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission is the recipient of federal funding to promote kindergarten readiness to income-eligible families in Early Head Start, which serves infants, toddlers, and expectant parents; and Head Start, which serves three- to five-year-old-children. We partner with parents to assist children in developing the knowledge and skills necessary for school success and lifelong well-being. Champaign County Head Start currently serves over 511 children and their families each year.

“Champaign County Head Start expertly demonstrates how to use state expansion and Head Start funding to benefit the community’s most vulnerable children and families. Their program is a shining example of collaboration at its finest, and of what is possible despite the many hurdles that can be encountered.”
-Michelle Wood, Principal Consultant, Illinois State Board of Education

Mission – POSSIBLEThe Champaign County Head Start program promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of culturally inclusive educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to eligible children, their families, and pregnant women. Our daily mission is to inspire our children to develop their unique talents and skills and prepare them for lifelong learning and success. Our teaching approach focuses on each child’s POTENTIAL and POSSIBILITIES.

“There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in.”
-Graham Greene

Policy CouncilOur parent policy council oversees all aspects of Head Start and Early Head Start programming. Parents of enrolled children represent 51% of the policy council with the remaining members representing the community that serves Head Start families. Parent representatives are elected by their respective local parent committees and they meet monthly to discuss all aspects of our program including curriculum, budget, and outcomes.

Annual ReportThe annual report is designed to provide the governing body, as well as the policy council, parents, and the community at large, with an overview of our program’s many accomplishments from the past year. It also includes a look at Head Start history and the goals of Head Start and Early Head Start.
