Historically, household hazardous waste collection options available to residents of east central Illinois have been inadequate. County staff, municipal staff, and health agencies routinely receive inquiries from residents about how to dispose of this waste, but typically there is no convenient option available. In 2013, the RPC received grant support from the Lumpkin Family Foundation and Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to conduct a project to identify a strategy to improve household hazardous waste collection options in a seven-county area of east central Illinois. All interested are invited to participate in final phases of the strategy project.
