After the severe drought conditions of 2012, some community leaders in East Central Illinois remarked how they could have made use of a local ordinance that would help them limit non-essential water use. With project support from Illinois American Water, CCRPC developed a model water restriction ordinance that can be adopted by municipalities.
The model ordinance
- Is designed to benefit both communities which receive public water supply from Illinois American Water Company and communities which operate their own water supply wells.
- May be considered and adopted in its entirety, or modified based on community preference, with provisions added or excluded prior to adoption.
- Includes both voluntary and mandatory water use restrictions for public water supply customers.
