Program Options

Center-Based Option

Champaign County Head Start provides four quality center-based kindergarten-readiness educational programs.

Early Head Start (Birth to Three)

Our Early Head Start program is a classroom-based service for children from birth to three years of age and home-based services for pregnant women. Center-based options include six-hour/day or 10-hour/day programming on a year-round basis.

Head Start (Ages Three to Five)

Our traditional Head Start program is a classroom-based preschool service for children ages three- to five-years-old. There are three different classroom options for these services.

  • Part Day – These classes are 3 1/2 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, and are offered in the morning and afternoon. This option is available at our Rantoul Head Start Center.
  • School Day – These classes are six hours per day, Monday through Friday, and are offered year-round.
  • Full Day – These classes are up to 10 hours per day and operate on a year-round basis. This option is available at all of our sites except our Savoy location. Priority is given to families that are working and/or attending school.

At a limited number of sites, bus stop service may be available to transport children to the center.

Home-Based Option

Our home-based program is for those families that may be located too far to consider a center-based placement. Home-based programming is year-round with weekly visits from a teacher, socialization twice per month, and comprehensive family support services.

Private Child Care Home Option

Our family childcare homes allow for wrap-around services to include formal Head Start

programming and childcare services in a full-day, full-year option.

Shelter-Based Option

Children receive Head Start services in a women’s residential shelter on a year-round basis.
