Intelligent Transportation Systems

Intelligent Transportation Systems

Intelligent Transportation Systems is a concept that shows how people and technology interact in order to improve the safety and efficiency of our region’s transportation system. By federal mandate, an ITS Architecture that details these interactions must be completed at the national, state, and regional levels.

CUUATS began the process of creating an ITS Architecture for the Champaign-Urbana-Savoy urbanized area in April 2004. Staff created a summary sheet, a list of potential stakeholders, and surveys to assist in data collection for the architecture. In October 2004, the first stakeholder workshop was held to discuss available and planned information technologies, participating agencies, and how information flows between agencies, the technologies, and the public.

The ITS Architecture report was approved and made final in March 2005.
