Goal   The CUUASP goal is to consistently reduce the number of fatalities and injury severities using a data-driven, strategic approach that includes education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response.
Objective   Reduce the five-year rolling average of number of pedestrian fatalities by 5 percent annually (from 2 to 1) by 2025 based on 2017 in the Champaign-Urbana urban area.

2018 Positive Rating There was no pedestrian fatality in 2018 in the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA). The 5-year rolling average decreased 12.5 percent from 1.6 in 2017 (2013-2017) to 1.4 fatalities in 2018 (2014-2018). Although the 5-year rolling average number of pedestrian fatalities is higher than the 2018 objective (1.52) needed for achieving a 5 percent annual reduction by 2025, there could not have been an even lower number of fatalities in 2018 than 0. Positive rating.
2019 Neutral Rating There was 1 pedestrian-related fatality in 2019 in the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA), a decrease from 1.6 fatalities in 2017 (5-year rolling average). The 5-year rolling average remained the same, which is higher than the 2019 objective (1.4) needed for achieving a 5 percent annual reduction by 2025. Neutral rating.
2020 Negative Rating There were 2 pedestrian-related fatalities in 2020 in the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA), an increase from 1.6 fatalities in 2017 (5-year rolling average). The 5-year rolling average decreased 12.5 percent from 2017 (2013-2017) to 1.4 fatalities in 2020 (2016-2020), which is higher than the 2020 objective (1.33) needed for achieving 5 percent annual reduction by 2025. Negative rating.
2021 Negative Rating There were 3 pedestrian-related fatalities in 2021 in the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA), an increase from 1.6 fatalities in 2017 (5-year rolling average). The 5-year rolling average decreased 12.5 percent from 2017 (2013-2017) to 1.4 fatalities in 2021 (2017-2021), which is higher than the 2021 objective (1.3) needed for achieving a 5 percent annual reduction by 2025.
